Tune In

by Debra Mae White on February 3, 2016

Purple Sky PicHello out there to my friends and family. As most of you know, “Permission to Rest” has been in print for over a year and a traditional publisher has shown interest in partnering with me to bring my message of rest to a wider audience. In order to build a foundation for speaking and sharing ideas for rest publicly, I have committed to resurrecting my blog as a platform. To that end, during 2016 you will see a brief post from me no more than weekly and no less than monthly. My attention will focus on Rest that promotes self nurture, and spiritual connection. I am deeply grateful to all of you willing to take a few moments to read my posts as part of this endeavor. It will be all the better if you are moved to make comments or forward to friends as we build a community of souls willing to give themselves permission to rest.

“As adults we talk ourselves out of what we feel. We convince ourselves that working is more important than eating or that watching TV or doing laundry or finishing an assignment for work is more important than sleeping. We tune out our feelings, essentially committing a form of self-abuse and neglect.” – Iyanla Vanzant

Our culture tempts us to exist only on the outside of our lives, what we do out there and who we are in the eyes of those we encounter come first. We are often afraid to look inside for fear of what we might find. Wounds, cravings, unmet dreams calling to us from a far away self we used to know. Yet these authentic needs linger there in the void. The only way we know they exist is through our feelings. If we tune out our feelings, we block out the key communication tool our soul uses as a means to provide direction.

Before you begin your task of “To Do’s” today, close your eyes, take three deep breaths and sit still for 5 minutes of rest. Set the timer if you must but give yourself 5 minutes to yourself. Go inside to explore and encounter the wise you that wants to be heard. Jot down how you feel and the key thoughts that came to mind.

Is there something you can do for your own well being today before you begin your daily routine?

Savor the moment…

Debra Mae
