Living My Message of Rest

Living My Message of Rest

It’s my Birthday month, marking the beginning of my 57th year. What better way to celebrate  than to christen my first blog.

My challenge these days is to live my message of “permission to rest” – I have written a book by the same title. For this piece of life, I must give up resisting, judging or manipulating myself into the “should do this or that” state of being. It is time to slow down, go within, trusting the process of connecting with intuitive guidance.

I used to run after life and try to grab it by the tail. Now I must wait in patience, for information and experience to come to me. If I am too attached to an outcome or try too hard to achieve a result, I develop an “energy leak.” My energy is my barometer. My level of energy let’s me know when I am resisting life or pushing too hard. The leak shows up at the point of too much effort. Note to self: “if you start feeling low, you need to rest and reassess.”

When you are in the natural flow of life, minimal energy is expended. Life is meant to be easy and effortless. This is a lesson I am learning every day as I go about the business of living.

Savor the Moment…

Debra Mae

Debra:

What a gift your blog is. I too chased and chased and chased and it seems the harder I worked and the more energy I expelled, the less I got, and the more exhausted I became. One day I simply could not take another step. We call in burnout in the corporate world. If I’d only given myself permission to rest, to be, to be open, to take in, to allow. Now, it’s the only way I live and guess what, I get more done! What a paradox. Bless you for showing us all how to give ourselves permission to rest.

Oh Debra, in just a few sentences, you have said so much about the creative process. Writers and creatives must “wait in patience for information and experience to come” to them. So much easier said than done, but well worth the effort of letting go. And yes, it is an effort to let go, at least a getting used to. Sue Monk Kidd in her book “When the Heart Waits,” talks beautifully about the value of waiting in concentrated stillness, of finding the still point, of giving attention to the heart, of creating a cocoon for spiritual transformation. Julia Cameron in “The Right to Write,” also talks about letting go. “Commit,” she says, “and the Universe will follow.” I wish you the best with the challenge of your blog and living its message.

When will PERMISSION TO REST be available to the inhabitants of this restless planet?

Love the video, words and visuals of your website — I, too, center around the quest for quiet and momentary rest. Thanks for these messages.

Somehow you stumbled upon my post from last summer around the time of my Birthday. I appreciate you checking out my site and your kind words. It is good to know there are others out there walking this path with me.
