Bike Ride at Sunset

Today I was transported to the ends of the earth and back on the wings of the wind. Riding my leisure bike at sunset, I found myself searching for adjectives to describe the color show peeking through the tree tops. Clouds surrounded with sparkling silver had mystical pinks swirling about their edges. As I glided by, my neighbor Bob shouted “colorful sky tonight, isn’t it?” I waved in response, an insubstantial gesture to convey the awe I felt at the unbridled view before me.

Today the sky seemed surreal. I pondered the mystery of the sunset and soon realized to discover its secrets, one must revel inside it. This is what my open air ride became, a chance to dare to drink it all in, from the beauty to the bounty to the brilliance, a chance to dance with the divas on the edge of reality. It was as if my peaceful pedaling opened a portal to joy. Utterly glorious!

Life as we know it includes such majesties that often go unnoticed. The rhythm of the ride while beholding nature took me outside of myself into all that is. There I rested from thought, anxiety and from distraction into the details of life that tend to drain my ability to embrace the everyday gifts life offers.

After all, isn’t that what we came here for?

Savor the moment…

Thanks for reminding me how enjoyable a bicycle ride can be. I think I will have bob buy me one, so I can fly through the sky too.
